God's Attributes: Eternal



Definition

Webster's says that eternity means lasting or enduring through all time. God is eternal. The Bible tells us our God is a God who was, is and is to come. The Bible refers to God as everlasting, the Ancient of Days. Before time God was, He has always been here and He will continue to be here long after the things of man are gone.


Meaning

This means for us, that since God is eternal the things of God our eternal. As Christians we should remember and take comfort in that. We need to keep in mind that God has eternity in site when he deals with us. God created time He is beyond time its self, this means that the things of God are eternal, especially the promises of God. And most importantly God's salvation through Christ Jesus is eternal, and that the only way to spend eternity with God is through our acceptance and relationship with Jesus.


Application

Since God does not have an end we should remember He will always be there with us regardless of our circumstances. He will always be there to comfort and guide us. Most importantly for Christians we must always keep eternity in mind and live our lives in light of eternity with God. We so often get caught up in this world as if this were all there is, and at times it's difficult to remember our time here is but a drop in the bucket compared to eternity with God.


Scripture

1st Timothy 1:17
Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Deuteronomy 33:27
The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

1st John 5:20
And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

1st Peter 5:10
But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.





Above All Things Put On Love

But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

God has Chosen the Foolish Things to Shame the Proud

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God-and righteousness and sanctification and redemption that, as it is written, He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.
