Reading Notes

True wisdom comes from knowing God and understanding His word. God's word especially the proverbs provide a way for people to know, perceive and understand wisdom. And not man's wisdom; but God's wisdom, a wisdom that leads to life, leads to joy and leads to fulfillment as we grow in Christ. Moreover Jesus promised that we would not only have new life, but a more abundant life through Him. Therefore God's word increases our understanding of the Lord and the world around us.

The word for wisdom used here carries the additional meaning of having an "applied skill" something we can use every day as we live our lives in a better way. And that's what God's word does for us. It not only gives wisdom and understanding spiritually; but practically it gives us wisdom and guidance we can use day to day to live better lives. In addition it helps to prepare us for God's work using the spiritual gifts which have been given to us through the Holy Spirit, by Jesus Himself because of our faith in Him.
