Welcome to Daily Bible Online

Daily Bible Online is a non-denominational Christian website devoted to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and helping believers grow in their Christian faith. Our website offers Bible Search and Study Tools designed to help Christians grow in their understanding and knowledge of the Bible. Our goal is to create online tools to help others explore and study the meaning of scripture as it relates to the entire Bible, Jesus Christ our Lord and God's plan of redemption. All of our scripture studies take into context the surrounding verses, chapter and book, as well as the historical and cultural times of the writer, and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

God's Gift of Grace to Us!

Everyone of us has sinned and broken God's laws. Everyone has fallen short of God's perfect standard. All people at one point or another have done something or thought something they're not proud of, something that they would not like anyone else to know about, let alone God. Moreover, God looks not only at our deeds, but also the desires and motives behind all the things we do. The Bible says, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." And that's what Salvation is all about. All of humanity was born with a sin-nature, and we are separated from God because of our sin. In addition, there are no works we can perform, which can earn our way into Heaven. What we consider "good deeds" are god's standard for our normal everyday behavior. If that were not hard enough, we have to remember, no good deeds, no matter how big the sacrifice, erase or remove past sin. There are no scales in Heaven, God is not going to compare our sins against our good deeds, to see which is greater.

That would be like committing a crime, then telling the judge we are not guilty because we did a good deed afterwards. We must remember all sin no matter how small in thought or deed is punishable by Hell. But the good news is God wants to have a relationship with you and me. God's desire is that all people would spend eternity with Him in Heaven. Therefore, God's salvation is a free gift given by His grace, through faith alone in Jesus alone. God gave us a way to receive forgiveness of all of our sins past, present and future! And that is His free gift of grace. We know that we are not perfect. Though try as we might, no one can achieve perfection. We cannot behave perfectly all, or even most of the time, and God knows that! And that's why He gave us the gift of salvation which is the forgiveness of sins. As the Bible says "for by grace you are saved through faith; and not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, lest anyone should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)

God Promises We Are One in With Christ - (Ephesians 4:4-6)

We are one body and spirit in Christ Jesus.

Reading Notes

Because of what Jesus did for us, we have been adopted into the family of God as children of God and joint-heirs with Him in the kingdom of God. We are now one family and one body in Him and Jesus is the Lord and Master of our lives. Because of our faith in Christ, all of us without distinction, have the one hope which is our eternal inheritance and future glory in His presence. We share this because of our faith in Jesus and His work on the Cross. Moreover, this hope is sealed within each and every one of us by the Holy Spirit who indwells all believers. Therefore, we are brought together as one family by God, into one body and for one purpose, to praise and honor God through Christ who is above all and through whom all was created.

Paul reminds us that the New Testament church is comprised of every believer since the day of Pentecost. The blood of Christ, shed for us at the Cross of Calvary has by faith, made us all children of God. We are brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus our Lord. This is because we are all brought together by one Spirit who is the Holy Spirit, under one lordship, that of Jesus Christ. And this has been done for the glory of God the Father, who is above all. We need to notice how Paul nicely ties together the role and persons of the Trinity for us in these passages. We see Paul speak of the Holy Spirit in verse four, Jesus in verse five and God the Father in verse six. We are saved by our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, filled with and brought together by the Holy Spirit who works in the lives of all believers to the glory of God the Father. This is the heart and purpose of our Christian faith.

Attributes of God are Immeasurable

Bible Verse Psalm 36:5-9

Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are a great deep; O Lord, You preserve man and beast. How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures. For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.

Commentary:

The attributes of the Lord are immeasurable and His love for us is never ending! How are we to know or attempt to understand the full scope of God's immutability, infinite love, omnipresence, omniscience and omnipotence? Though we can try to describe God's loving-kindness with the biggest words, the most elaborate expressions possible, we are still left short. And what we'll experience once we're face to face with Jesus, exceeds our ability to describe while living in this fallen world. Through faith we are joint-heirs with Christ and adopted into the family of God. David wrote this psalm as he pondered God's faithfulness and His goodness, as compared to the wickedness of mankind. David correctly marveled at the fact that though we are fallen humanity, all of whom are dead in our trespasses and sin, God loves us anyway. Moreover, all those who place their trust and faith in Jesus can receive salvation and experience the loving kindness of the Lord as we come into a close relationship with Him through faith.

David describes this close relationship with the Lord as being under the "protective wing" of God. In these passages, David is trying his best to describe the love God has for those who place their faith in Him alone. And though our words fail to convey what awaits us in heaven, God did give us one example, the ultimate evidence of His love for us is Christ Jesus our Lord. Jesus who is fully God humbled Himself to take on humanity. Jesus who was born of a virgin, the incarnate God of Heaven stepped out of eternity and took on humanity for no other reason, than to save us by God's grace. Jesus experienced everything that we experienced in order to be our perfect substitute. Taking our place and bearing the punishment, shame and guilt that we deserved. Jesus did this for us, and He did this for no other reason than to give us the ability to spend eternity with Him. This gives us the best example this side of heaven, of God's love for us. Jesus is our fountain of life, He is the foundation of our eternal security and the light of the world. And through Him, by God's grace alone we have eternal life to come and a more abundant life now, as we submit to the guidance of the Holy Spirit who indwells all followers of Christ!

Jesus Our Eternal King and Chief Cornerstone

1st Timothy 1:14-15, Acts 4:11-12

And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. This is the stone which was rejected by the builders, which has become the chief cornerstone. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

God is Long-suffering, Not Wanting Any to Perish

2nd Peter 3:8-9

Beloved, do not forget that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, but is longsuffering not willing that any should perish but all should come to repentance. The Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; Therefore, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for the coming of the day of God.

The Lord is My Tabernacle

Psalm 27:4-6

One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple. For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock. And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

If God is For Us, Who Can Come Against Us

Romans 8:28-31

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Our Freedom is in Jesus Alone

John 8:30-32, 34-36

As He spoke these words, many believed in Him. Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Abide in Jesus, Abide in Truth

John 15:4-7,9

Abide in Me, and I [will abide] in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.

God Chooses the Foolish to Shame the Wise

1st Corinthians 1:27-31

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God-and righteousness and sanctification and redemption that, as it is written, He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.

Everlasting Life in the Only Begotten Son of God

John 3:16-18

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Jesus Name Above All Names

Philippians 2:6-11

Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Our Sins Wiped Clean Through God's Mercy

Psalm 103:10-14

He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a father pities his children, So the Lord pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.

God's Word is Living and Powerful

Hebrews 4:12-14

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

Our Heart Determines the Character of Our Faith - (Proverbs 26:13-16)

The lazy man says, "There is a lion in the road a fierce lion is in the streets." As a door turns on its hinges, so does the lazy man on his bed. The lazy man buries his hand in the bowl; it wearies him to bring it back to his mouth. The lazy man is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can answer sensibly.

Reading Notes

In these passages the Bible is using exaggerated examples and rhetorical statements to show us the mindset behind the lazy person. God's word uses exaggeration to show the outrageous claims and excuses people use to justify their laziness. However, from the Bible's perspective laziness is another form of foolishness. The last verse in this set of passages shows us the true cause of laziness and foolishness toward God and the things of God. And that cause is found in the hearts of people, and it's yet another form of rebellion against God, the people of God and the things of God. Dear believer as humorous as these passages are, do not miss this important truth. When it comes to our faith, and when it comes to our obedience and submission to the Holy Spirit's guidance, it's a matter of the heart. Our faith and our spiritual life comes down to the condition of our hearts and it's a matter of where our hearts stand toward Christ Jesus our Lord.

And a heart caught up in pride and self-absorption is a heart closed off to the saving knowledge of Jesus and the work of the kingdom of God. Everything regarding our faith depends on where our heart is toward Jesus, toward God and toward His word, the Bible. Our relationship with God is a reflection of our heart's attitude toward Jesus and whether or not He is truly the Lord of our life. Do we look at Jesus and say to Him, "my Lord and my God." Or is our faith, nothing more than an accessory to our weekly routine, something we add on to help round out our lives. Is our religion nothing more than an activity we use to complete the public image of ourselves? Here we see the true motive of the foolish person, which is they are wise in their own eyes. Notice they are not wise in God's eyes and they are not wise in the eyes of others. Rather, they are wise in their own eyes because of their pride. And they are happy with their justification for laziness because their hearts are in rebellion against God.

Those Who Wait On the Lord Are Not Ashamed - (Psalm 25:1-3)

To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in You; Let me not be ashamed; Let not my enemies triumph over me. Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed; Let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause.

Reading Notes

Sometimes the hardest thing for a Christian to do, is wait upon the Lord. Sometimes our flesh can make it so very difficult for us to wait on God's timing. However, faith is to wait on God's desire and God's will for our lives and not our own will, nor our own desires. This can be especially hard when we are in the mist of a trial, when our soul is crying out for deliverance, when we do not want to bear the pain or the hurt of the trial any longer. These are the times we cry out for God to deliver us! And rightly so! Because here in God's very word He promises that those who wait on Him will not be ashamed. Those who place their trust in God will not be ashamed, for the Lord is our cause, He is our shield and our defense.

But, dear Christian this must also be true in our day to day lives, in our homes, in our jobs, in our leisure time and in our worldly pursuits. We must always ask ourselves, "Do we remember to wait on the Lord?" Sometimes when troubles hit us, the first thing we cry out is "Jesus save us" and that is good for He is faithful to save us! However, what about those ordinary times, those day to day moments where we spend most of our lives? Are you waiting on the Lord during those moments, or do you forget about God and go about your own plans for success, plans for gain and for a happy life? These are also the moments to wait upon the Lord. Because these are the moments that shape our life and it's from these moments we develop our habits of faith, and cultivate the fabric and substance of our walk with God.

Bible Principle for Today
for Sunday, November 19, 2017

God has a plan for our lives and He has given us the Holy Spirit and His Word to help guide us; but trials will happen and we can learn more in those valleys of trial than on our mountaintop of successes.

Prayer for Today
for Sunday, November 19, 2017

O Father, thank you so much for Jesus! Thank you for blessing me with a spiritual meal which reminds me and proclaims again that Jesus died, offering his body and blood as the atoning sacrifice for my sins. Thank you for giving me the day of his resurrection as the day I can powerfully remember this great sacrifice and anticipate the great day of reunion that his resurrection has secured for your children.
